What is your calling.? How do you find out?

I hear this in most of the churches I go to and speak to, what has God called you to do. What are you supposed to be doing for the kingdom? You will mostly get asked, do you know what the special calling is from God for your life? Visiting prophetic preachers will pray over some and say they are going to be mighty men or women of GOD, and bring about the revival for that area. Some preachers will lay hands on the heads of a few of the youngsters, some will call the elders to surround and pray for people, some will hold what they call waiting meetings for people to hear the voice of GOD tell them what they are to do. They seem to want to make everyone feel inadequate for not knowing, some will tell you that you should go to Bible College to find out your calling, because according to them that is the highest calling you can have, to serve God in the pulpit evangelising and preaching the sinners into the kingdom. It is a pity that they dont realise that every job for GOD is of equal measure, there is no higher or lower calling in the kingdom. Your calling, role that GOD wants you to do for the kingdom, is not that difficult and you do not need a so called prophet to tell you what it is. That calling might not last the rest of your working life, you might have a calling now and another calling later in life. But let me make this clear, not everyone is called to work in the church. In the Bible only 10% of people work in the temple serving GOD, the rest work out in the world along with all the other 90% of people.

Let me make this a little easier for you and show you how you can find out, and find out very quickly. It is not going to be written in bright neon lights, you dont need some preacher to tell you as they pray over you. You dont need some loud voice in your ear to tell you, it might not be as some may suggest, the quiet voice spoken when you are still.
So how do I find out? Simple? What is it that causes you to well up every time you think about it, what is it that upsets you when you see or think about it. That is the base of your calling, now start thinking about how you can get involved with that, whatever it is, how can you help, how can you change it for GOD. Then simply pray to God with words along the lines of, show me how I can change this situation. Ideas will pop into your head, people will be put across your path.
Not every body is meant to preach, not everybody is meant to pastor a church. That is not the highest calling you can have, contary to what most people will tell you. Only 10% are put to one side to serve in the temple, the rest are supposed to be out in the workplace. Yes the Bible shows us that only 10% of the whole of Israel are meant to serve GOD in the temple and synagogues, if you are born of the tribe of Levi, then you are heading for the temple as a priest. The other 90% are expected to be out in the workplace earning, mixing with the sinners, so that they can support those 10%.

So what is it the gets the lump in your throat, what makes you say that is not right, someone should do something about that. There is your answer, that someone is GOD offering you the oportunity to make that difference. It does not matter how small or how big it is. Let me give you an example: One area that gets me is Israel and in particular the people both Jew and Arab, so what can I do? I do not have the means to travel there, I cannot help with there military, I cannot even speak Hebrew, no matter much time I spend trying to learn. I can however, find an organisation in Israel that holds my same beliefs, my same desires to help, has boots on the ground so to speak and is in a better place to provide the help required, so I send them my monthly donations, I purchase items from their shop, I pray for them and I view videos they produce that may help me at the same time. It might not sound like a lot at this moment, but when you are going to travel down a new road then you laways have to take the first step, and you have no idea where it is going to lead you. When I was at school, I had no academic skills, I had very little in the way of qualifications and I could no tleave the place fast enough. I did have 2 skills, one was athletics and the other mechanics. Not going to go far with them I hear you say. Well, eventually I joined the Army, I became a fully qualified mechanic I could drive legally, fully licensed, all the vehicles with the exception of motor bikes. I also took part in regimental athletics, which took me to various competitions which lead eventually to the GB Olympic team qualification standard. I traveled throughout most of Europe and USA, yes I had to fight a few battles along the way, but for a kid who didnt like school or teachers, I thought I had done OK. However when I left the Army I walked into a workplace recession, so went to college instead, I did various courses and ended up in University which I passed with honours. I ran my own company for a number of years, up until covid, the work was there but the ability to do it was removed, I had no option, sit it out and do nothing, or find something else. GOD is now using all the skills I have learnt in the past to huge benefit today. So a new path way is nothing to be feared, but you never know where it will take you. I am not just sending finances to Israel, there is a whole lot more going on, but as an example you must start somewhere. My head hears the stories from the people of Israel, I watch the scenes of war and the problems this causes; I have seen it before and know it well; I see the suffering that is caused and the terror in the childrens eyes and my heart breaks. I need to do something so that GOD can also do His part, through me, so I do what I can, but that I know is not the end. Your destination may very easily change as you faithfully put one foot in front of the other and do what your heart leads you into. You will look back and realise that you would have never picked this pathway at the start, but you will know that you are in the right place. As you move forward GOD will direct you, but you have to move first. I know there are new callings for me to take up in the years to come, I know I have not completed my race, it does not matter what the next job is for me because I know that my GOD can handle it and lead me through with the strength I need, because I am willing to follow, I can step forward and say "I'll do it", and step out. Sometimes it is not important that you know how to do what you are called to do, what is important is that you are willing and to look like you know, GOD will fill in the blanks for you.
GOD is not usually going to just drop something into your lap and make it obvious. Your calling will probably change as you progress through life. Yes you may be called to ministry and that is great, but you will be one out of 10 who is called, the rest have a different pathway which is equally as profitable to the kingdom of Heaven. Dont ignore the skills you learn along the way, you may find out that they open other doors later on to new pathways.

There is another reason for simply saying "Yes, i'll do it" to God and stepping out on your calling, without the full knowledge of the journey in front of you. It is a biblical concept for you to think about, if you are doing God's work, think about this, are you going to have God's protection whilst you are doing the work? If you are given a task, are you going to complete it? Are you going to get seriously sick half way through and have to give it up? Do you think you are not going to be able to afford the task GOD has asked you to do? Let me show you something.

King James Translation Acts 27:
10: And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
11: Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
12: And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
13: And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.
14: But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
15: And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
16: And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
17: Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
18: And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;
19: And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
20: And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
21: But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
22: And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.
23: For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24: Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25: Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
26: Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
27: But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
28: And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.
29: Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
30: And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
31: Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
32: Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
33: And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
34: Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
35: And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
36: Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.
37: And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
38: And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.
39: And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
40: And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
41: And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
42: And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
43: But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:
44: And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

OK, Paul has basically been arrested in Jerusalem, by the leaders from the Temple so that they can kill him. However Paul at his hearing has asked for an appeal to Ceaser himself in Rome, because Paul didnt think he would get a fair trail in Jerusalem. So the appeal is granted and Paul as a prisoner is to be transported to Rome. So Paul now has a calling to go preach in Rome, in from of Ceaser himself. It all starts with fair soft gentle winds, just like most people who travel down their assigned path, it all starts out sunshine and roses. Doesnt matter about the chains he is in, you could say Paul has got a travel permit fully paid for with accomodation and food thrown in at no financial cost to Paul, but that is not the main point I want to show you. Ask Paul progresses on the journey, this is not a 2 or 3 day cruise, this is months at sea at the mercy of the wind. Notice in verse 10 at the start of this piece, Paul already had a vision that this is not going to be smooth sailing, as he spoke out the warnings, those in charge contradicted him and the Roman centurian in charge of the prisoners believed the leaders rather than Paul. Paul is being sent, but he has no idea what the next few daays, weeks, months hold but Paul is just going to put one foot in front of the other, have dreams and finally speaks with angels. Paul finally once the wind gets up and the seas become wild, gets confirmation from GOD that you are going to Rome and so is every person on the ship. The master and the owners have to throw all their cargo overboard to keep the ship afloat in the storm, so they have lost all their finances for the trip, but before they loose the ship as they crash into Malta. Paul has told them "I told you so, you should have listened to me at the start, but smile, you are all going to live", you might not keep your lunch but you will live. The ship eventually smashes up on the rocks around the north part around ST Pauls Bay if you have ever been there so the wealthy owners and master of the ship have lost everything they are becoming more and more attentive to what Paul has to say. Those who can swim, swim, those who dont use smashed up planks from the ship and make it to the beach, all the crew and passengers are alive just as Paul said they would be. The Roman centurian is listening, we will see that in a short while, the crew are thankful to Paul people are starting to listen to what he has to say. But they are only half way through the journey, breathing a sigh of relief they set out to sun bathe for a few days until another ship is found...

So let me continue in the next chapter, yes there is more, GOD is not yet finished with this lot, Paul has a mission he is on an assignment from GOD.
1: And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2: And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3: And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4: And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5: And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
6: Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7: In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
8: And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9: So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:
10: Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.
11: And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12: And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
13: And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:
14: Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.
15: And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.
16: And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
17: And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18: Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
19: But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
20: For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
21: And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
22: But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
23: And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24: And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
25: And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
26: Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
27: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28: Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
29: And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
30: And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31: Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

So the crew of the ship may be thankful to Paul for praying for them and they know that is why they are alive, but now on the beach they see the barbarous locals. They have obviously seen the ship wreck, they are amazed that anyone made it to land but they built them a fire to warm them up. Paul is obviously a hospitable man, even in chains he helps out gathering wood for the fire. But awakens a venomous snake, which bites him on the hand. The locals know about these snakes and it is instant death from one of these bites. They are amazed that Paul just shakes it off into the fire and wait for him to fall over, they watch and wait. This man must have some big joo joo, he is still walking they say to each other. Only when Paul is still walking and talking after a long time do the locals think he is a god. They are so amazed that all the people from the ship are housed in the chief's house for the next 3 days. Obviously they want to get more info from Paul, this god that has landed on their shores. Paul is not silent during these days, Paul is preaching teaching, telling his testimony and heals the chiefs father from his sick bed. Paul is not finished, we are told others who are sick are brought in and are healed. Paul might not be in Rome doing his assignment from God but he is not sitting around sucking his thumb waiting either, he is still working for the kingdom and having favour unloaded onto him. When they eventually arrive in Rome, the centurian is tasked with looking after Paul until his hearing. Paul is still a prisoner, but I have a feeling the centurian is not going to let this man of God get away from him until he is force to let him go. He brings the local Jews to meet with Paul and hear his testimony. Those local Jews had not heard any of this, but I am sure the Roman soldiers and the centurian would have backed up Paul's story. Yep we witnessed it, what Paul says is true. Paul preached and taught, expounded the Law of Moses to all who came, but notice that only some believed and others not. It does not matter who you are, what your status is, and how amazing your testimony is, just like Paul, only some will believe and others not, all you can do is be faithful to God speak and teach what you have been told, where you have been told. At the end Paul is given full authority to preach and teach the Kingdom of God, with no one allowed to forbid him. Paul is not going to die whilst he does his assignment, you can be shipwrecked, smashed onto the rocks, bound in chains, biten by venomous snakes and still you are walking strong and tall in God. My thoughts as I read this passage and my assignment are, the brown stuff might well hit the fan, and probably will especially as the devil wants to stop you. If I carry on with blinkered vision, just know me end point, it does not matter what happens on the way to it, my end point is fixed with God, if I slip up and die at some point, you can resurect me because my mission is not over. Yes I did say that, if I die before my assignment is complete, you can bring me back to finish the job. So guess how many times I volunter for the mission, yeah, every time, I know if my mission is not finished I am not going anywhere. I am on assignment with the most high living GOD and I get angels to help and guide me, to protect me, I get what is required to do the assignment provided, anyone who comes against me, will loose, and probably loose everything, as long as I remain faithful to that assignment.

Mark 4:
35: And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36: And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37: And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38: And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39: And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40: And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41: And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
I am going to the other side on an assignment, and I have full authority over everything to get there. There are some devils over that side who need casting out, some people who need to hear the word and some miracles that need to be shown. Dont wait for some prophet to tell you what you are supposed to do, get out of the boat, walk on the water and do something - that is your calling.
